Norway with a camper van

Norjaan matkustaminen matkailuautolla on helppoa ja mielekästä puuhaa. Ensikertalainenkin oppii nopeasti liikkumaan asuntoautolla. Matkailuautolla Norjaan matkustaminen tarkoitti meille vapautta, mennä minne halusimme.

Traveling to Norway with a camper van is relatively easy and definitely fun thing to do. Even the first timers learn quickly how to move around with a camper van. Traveling to Norway with a van meant us freedom to go wherever we wanted.

Matka kohti Norjaa alkoi Best Caravanin toimispisteestä Hyvinkäältä. Paikan päällä minä ja tyttöystäväni tutustuttiin Sunlight T 68 XV matkailuautoon, joka tulisi olemaan kotimme viikon verran. Kyseessä on Sunlightin juhalamalli ja se tuntuikin todella ylelliseltä ja mukavalta. Kävimme Best Caravanin kanssa läpi kaikki, mitä matkailuauton käytössä tulee ottaa huomioon. Vaikka olimme käytännössä ensikertalaisia, tuntui matkailuauton käyttöönotto helpolta ja vaivattomalta.

The journey towards Norway started from Best Caravan office in Hyvinkää. On the site me and my girlfriend  got to know how the Sunlight T 68 XV camper van work since it would be our home for the next week. The van felt really comfortable and luxurious. With Best Caravan we went through all the things that you need to know when traveling with camper van. Even though we were first timers what comes to camper vans, introduction felt easy and logical.

Towards Norway

Määränpäämme oli Pohjois-Norjassa sijaitseva saari nimeltä Senja. Kyseisellä saarella olimme jo vierailleet aiemmin, mutta kyseessä oli nyt ensimmäinen retki asuntoautolla. Kilometrejä kertyisi yhteen suuntaan n.  1400 km, joten meille tärkeää oli matkustusmukavuus. Tämä on onneksi kunnossa Sunlight T 68 XV matkailuautossa, jonka saimme käyttöön Best Caravanilta. Asuntoauto on yllättävän ketterä ja helppo ajaa, kunhan muistaa ottaa huomioon auton yli seitsemän metrin pituuden. Matkailuautolla reissaamisen mukavuus ja helppous realisoitui heti ensimmäisenä yönä kohti Norjaa, kun päätimme pysähtyä pitkän ajomatkan jälkeen pysäköintialueelle ja käydä nukkumaan.

Our destination in Northern Norway was an island called Senja. We had visited that place before but now it was first time when we were heading there with a camper van. The one-way trip would be around 1400km so able to travel comfortably was our priority. Luckily this box is ticked in Sunlight T 68 XV camper van which we got from Best Caravan. Despite its big size it is surprisingly agile and easy to drive. You just must keep in mind that it is over seven meters long. We quickly realized the easiness and comfyness when traveling with a camper van right at the first night towards Norway, when after long drive we decided to just pull over to the parking lot and go to bed.

The mountain are calling

Toisena matkustuspäivänä meillä oli vielä reilusti ajettavaa jäljellä. Norjan puolella olevat vuorimaisemat kuitenkin pitivät meidät hymyssä suin ja virkeinä ja lopulta olimme perillä ensimmäisessä kohteeseemme. Pysäköimme matkailuautomme niille varatulle alueella ja lähdimme kapuamaan kohti Segla vuoren huippua. Kyseessä on yksi Senja saaren kuuluisimpia vuoria ja se kohoaa 639 metriin merenpinnan yläpuolelle. Vaellus oli raskas, mutta ylhäällä meidät palkitsi upeat maisemat yli vuorien ja vuonojen.

The second day of our travels we still had quite a lot of driving ahead of us. But the thought about the mountains and epic landscapes in Norway kept us smiling and eventually we reached our destination in Senja. We parked our camper van to the dedicated parking area and started to hike towards the peak of Segla mountain. Segla is one of the most famous mountains in the island of Senja and the peak reaches 639 meters above the sea level. The hike was strenuous but at the top the views over the fjords rewarded us.

Perfect day in a camper van

Kyseisellä saarella oli reilusti muitakin ihmisiä liikkeelle niin normaaleilla autoilla, polkupyörillä kuin myös matkailuautoilla. Emme antaneet tämän kuitenkaan häiritä vaan jatkoimme paikkojen tutkimista Sunlightin asuntoautolla. Matkailuautoilu osoittautui jälleen kerran helpoksi, kun meille tuli nälkä ja halusimme nopeasti ruokaa. Best Caravanilta saadussa Sunlight T 68 XV:n tilavassa jääkaapissa saimme tuotua mukanamme reilun määrän ruokaa. Pystyimmekin nopeasti pysähtymään rannalle ja ruveta kokkailemaan, jonka jälkeen nautimme annoksemme nauttien vuoristomaisemista ja upeasta säästä.

In Senja island, there were many other people traveling with cars, bicycles and camper van. We did not let all those people bother us but continued exploring the island with our Sunlight T 68 XV camper van. The van turned out to be handy once again when we quickly wanted something to eat. Luckily, the Sunlight T 68 XV camper van which we got from Best Caravan is equipped with good sized fridge and we were able to bring our favourite food with it. That is why we stopped to a beach, cooked some lunch and enjoyed the mountain scenery and perfect weather.

From sunset to sunrise

Koska Pohjois-Norjassa on heinäkuun puolessa välissä yötön yö, pyrimme keskittämään vaelluksemme myöhäisen illan ja aamuyön tunteihin. Tällöin vallitseva valo on parhaimmillaan ja valo- ja videokuvauksen kannalta maisemat ovat näyttävimmillään. Suuntasimmekin matkailuautomme kohti Tungeneset picnic aluetta, jonka kallioilla on täydellistä ihastella auringonlaskua. Tämän jälkeen ajoimme asuntoautolla vähän matkaa ja aloitimme yön viimeisen vaelluksen. Tällä kertaa suuntasimme kohti Barden nimistä huippua, jossa ihastelimme auringonnousua. Kokonaisuutena reilu neljän tunnin vaellus oli uuvuttava, mutta antoisa.

We tried to focus our hikes to night since In Northern Norway during the July is nightless night which means 24 hours of sunlight. During late night and early morning, the light is best for taking pictures and the landscape is the most beautiful. That is why we cruised with our camper van to Tungeneset picnic area where the cliffs right next to the sea are perfect place to enjoy the sunset. After that we drove short distance and started our night hike to mountain called Barden where we watched the sunrise. In total, over four-hour hike during night was really wearing but rearding.

Winding road torwads Lofoten

Viimeisenä päivänä Senjan saarella kävimme vielä kapuamassa ylös Hesten vuoren huipulle. Tämä paikka on käymisen arvoinen, koska se tarjoaa upeat näkymät Segla vuorelle päin. Myöhemmin iltapäivällä starttasimme Sunlight T 68 XV asuntoauton määränpäänämme Lofootit. Kyseessä on monesta saaresta koostuva saariryhmä. Matkan varrella matkailuauton käytännöllisyys nousi taas arvoonsa. Olimme ajaneet jo pitkän matkaa, kun huomasimme täydellisen levähdyspaikan rannassa. Pysäytimme matkailuauton ja rupesimme paistamaan lettuja, koska aina on hyvä hetki syödä lettuja! Nautimme niitä hiljalleen laskevaa aurinkoa ihaillen, kunnes jatkoimme matkaa kohti Lofootteja.

On our last day in Senja island we hiked up to Hesten mountain. This place is definitely worth to visit since from there opens awesome view to the peak of Segla mountain. Later in the afternoon we started our Sunlight T 68 XV with our destination the Lofoten islands. During our journey there, the practicality of the camper van show itself once again. We had already driven a long way when we spotted perfect rest stop by the sea. We stopped our van and started to fry pancakes because always is a good time to eat pancakes! We enjoyed them gazing to the horizon where the slowly setting sun painted the snow-capped mountains with warm colors.

Patience is virtue on the road

Koska olimme ensimmäistä kertaa liikenteessä matkailuautolla, olimme erityisen varovaisia liikkuessamme kapeilla vuoristoteillä. Tiet ovat usein hyvin kapeita ja mutkittelevia. Tällöin maltti on valttia, erityisesti kun tiellä on vastaantulevaa liikennettä. Vaikka Sunlight T 68 XV onkin yllättävän ketterä asuntoauto, on syytä muistaa, että sillä on pituutta yli seitsemän metriä ja se on myös leveämpi kuin normaali pakettiauto. Varovaisuuden turvin pääsimme kuitenkin turvallisesti perille Lofooteille.

Since we were first timers traveling with camper van, we were extra cautious when moving around the narrow mountain roads. The roads up in Northern Norway are narrow and winding in many places. Patience is a virtue in those situation, especially when there are other traffic too. Even though the Sunlight T 68 XV is surprisingly agile it is good to remember that the length of it is over seven meters and it is also wider than normal van. Taking things easy and with patience we arrived safely to Lofoten islands.

Small towns and mountain peaks

Matkamme taittui hiljalleen pienten kylien ja lukuisten saarien ja tunnelien läpi. Maisemat olivat uskomattomia ja toinen toistaan upeampia. Onkin hyvä varata riittävästi aikaa alueen tutkimiseen, koska vuorenhuippuja, jonne voit kiivetä, on todella paljon. Meidän listallemme mahtui kaksi vaellusta, joista jälkimmäinen on nimeltään Reinebringen. Tämän vuoren huipulta aukeavat henkeäsalpaavat näkymät Reine kylän yli. Vaellus, tai pikemminkin porraskävely, on erittäin suosittu. Tästä syystä kannattaakin suunnata vaellukselle todella myöhään tai hyvin aikaisin.

Our journey went slowly through small towns and countless islands and tunnels. The views were spectacular and one more stunning than the other. That is why I advise to take enough time when exploring the area. There are some many peaks to hike to. To our list, we fitted to hikes which the latter one was Reinebringen. From this peak opens breathtaking views over the town of Reine. The hike, or more or less stair walk, is very popular. That is why I recommend heading there extremely late or early.

Norway and camper van are perfect combination

Reinebringenin vaelluksen jälkeen nukuimme pitkään. Seuraavana päivänä lähdimme kotimatkalle, johon olimme varanneet reilusti aikaa. Kokonaisuutena retkemme Best Caravanilta saadulla Sunlight T 68 XV matkailuautolla Pohjois-Norjaan oli onnistunut. Saimme kivuta monelle vuorelle, nähdä upeita maisemia ja kokea unohtumattomia hetkiä. Vaikka olimme ensimmäistä kertaa liikkeellä asuntoautolla, emme kokeneet sillä liikkumista vaikeaksi. Päinvastoin mielestämme matkailuautoilu on äärimmäisen hieno ja miellyttävä tapa matkustaa. Tällöin sinulla kulkee koti mukana, minne ikinä menetkin ja olet varma, että pääset omaan sänkyyn.

After the hike to Reinebringen we slept in. Next day we started to head to home and for that drive we had reversed good amount of time. In total, our exploration with Sunlight T 68 XV that we got from Best Caravan was successful. We got to hike many mountain tops, see amazing landscapes and witness unforgettable moments. Despite the fact that it was our first time traveling with a camper van, we didn’t feel that it was hard. Vice versa, in our opinion traveling with a camper van is great and pleasant way to travel. You have always your home with you and you can be sure that you can get to your own bed every night.
